Honda-Accord Sedan 1985

Not Vygis' 85 but otherwise similar

The '85 was a car that Vygis got as a hand-down from his Mom, after lusting for it for years. It epitomized class for him: the reputation of a Honda, the sedate grey "Real Estate Agent" metallic flake color, the snappy 1980's dashboard. This was the car used for the first few summer tours in the middle 1990's. He outfitted it with a CB radio and it was most often seen with a magnetic antenna on the trunk. After he put 200 thousand miles on it, it began developing a wide variety of leaks, in particular a cloud of oil burning off of his exhaust as a result of unfixable gasket leaks. Eventually, Vygis reached the point of deciding to do an engine swap on the car. Given the incredible number of vacuum hoses on the engine this was no small project. He acquired a replacement engine from a junkyard, swapped a few manifolds from his old engine, and did the swap using the same primitive garage in the Gilder-Murray house in which he'd done the engine rebuild on the Omega. When he was done, the car still leaked oil. The plan was to store the car while the original engine was rebuilt, but after the swap was done the original engine languished for years at the Goddard Auto Club until being mistaken for unclaimed junk and was recycled. The 85 was stored at Budget Stor-it in Fredrick until Vygis' untimely death.
