Modern china small

Vygis Campe's mid-century modern china: Metlox Poppy Trail California Freeform (not Mobile, which has purple in it). There's some up on eBay -- an expensive hobby that enhanced some tasty meals. Here is the delightful brochure for it: modish.net

"Produced in 1954 by Metlox Potteries of California as part of their Poppytrail dinnerware line, it has a Mid Century coupe shape and a motif that is inspired by the mobiles of Alexander Calder. Designed by Frank Irwin and approved by Mel Shaw and Bob Allen, it is commonly regarded as one of the pinnacles of avant-garde dinnerware design from the post war era.

As advertised, Freeform is 'Trend Setting... created for moderns who want something different. Cocoa, chartreuse and sharp yellow against a background of palest grey, 'textured' with tiny dots of color; decoration of these novel designs is painted by hand.'

Along with its sister lines of California Mobile and California Contempra, which have the same design in different color combinations, this Metlox line mixes well with Eames furniture, Heywood-Wakefield furniture or good ole Danish Modern blond wood.

One of the most distinctive patterns of dinnerware ever produced, it looks smashing as a table setting. Add it to your Metlox or American dinnerware collection today." http://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/metlox-poppytrail-freeform-dinner-plate
